Madison and Ray’s Belle Mer wedding in Newport, RI was modern and chic! When I first spoke with Madison and Ray they shared with me that they envisioned their wedding photos feeling lively and fun! They wanted to embrace some of the messiness of a real moment and didn’t care so much about having the “perfectly curated” look we often see in wedding portraits. Of course, every part of their wedding day was stunning, but we wanted their photos to feel authentic and natural!
Stylistically, they have a particular fondness for the film aesthetic, grainy black-and-white images, and the occasional bit of motion blur! We really took these preferences to heart and they loved the final images!
Newport, RI Late Summer Wedding
Madison and Ray each got ready at Newport Harbor Island Resort, formerly known as Gurney’s, just down the street from Belle Mer. They opted not to see one another ahead of their ceremony, so we planned their timeline in a way that allowed for plenty of quality time with each of their respective parties. Madison and her bridesmaids had a mini champagne tower while they were getting ready, which I thought was so unique and fun!
Belle Mer is a highly sought-after Longwood venue in Newport, Rhode Island. It sits on the edge of the water of Narragansett Bay and has views of the Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge. Once everyone was ready we did a set of portraits with each of their groups at the venue. We made sure they wouldn’t see each other ahead of the ceremony. They opted for a timeless black-and-white color scheme with tuxes and black bridesmaid dresses that looked absolutely stunning with all-white bouquets!
Modern Photography Style for a Belle Mer Wedding
The ceremony itself was set just before sunset. The outdoor ceremony space on the manicured lawn overlooking the water could not have been more perfect! I loved seeing Ray’s face when he saw Madison walking down the aisle with her father.
Once the ceremony concluded, we had about forty minutes of daylight remaining to capture as many post-ceremony portraits as possible! We gathered the family and wedding party for a few portraits, before capturing portraits of just the newlyweds! We had the dreamiest sunset over the harbor, giving the perfect glow to the photos of that quintessential Belle Mer view.
Once it was time for the reception, the party was on! Lively dancing, an outfit change, and an official “last dance” of just the couple made the night one to remember!
