Question: When you live in the South End of Boston and want a backyard wedding, what do you do?!
Answer: Throw the biggest party you can in the “backyard” of the South End!
And this leads us to Margaret and Ben’s wedding at the Boston Center for the Arts Cyclorama, right in the heart of the South End! In all of our chats leading up to the wedding, the most important thing to them was to create an incredible party for all of the people they love. “Big.Sweaty.Dance.Party.” may have been used to describe their vision 😉 The second element they emphasized, was that it was important for the time leading up to the ceremony to be relaxed, worry-free, and fun! We structured the photography timeline in a way that gave us plenty of time to capture all of the important moments, but also allowed Margaret and Ben to truly enjoy that time leading up to the ceremony.
Depending on who you ask, you may get a different answer on what the first date was for the two of them — all because they had been friends for so long before dating! Was it that Sunday showing of a 3D IMAX lemur documentary at the Fort Lauderdale Science Museum?! Or the tacos before they carpooled to the airport on separate trips?! Maybe it was the John Legend concert?! The world may never know their real first date, but all of these events certainly brought Margaret and Ben closer together.
For their 3 year anniversary, Ben surprised Margaret with a trip back to Fort Lauderdale (where they first met!). After a bike ride to grab brunch the morning after they arrived, Ben proposed on the dock in front of their old apartment — with friends waiting in the bushes to celebrate!
Wedding advice to other couples:
When we were venue shopping, this wonderful woman who owns a flower farm outside of Portland, Maine told me, ‘People often get obsessed over the tiniest details. It’s actually misplaced anxiety. You’re inviting everyone you know and love together and trying to make sure they have a good time. Don’t forget that it’s about those people. Not the silly little details.’
PS – if you haven’t already seen it, check out Ben and Margaret’s South End Engagement Session! We did it in their own home and it’s one of my favorites, ever. ☺️
