When these two New Yorkers booked me for their coastal New England wedding, we had two options for the engagement session:

1. Do the classic New England session, close to both me and their wedding venue
2. Create a special NYC engagement session, in the place they call home

 

 

There’s no right or wrong and both would have been stunning, but they ultimately decided to do their engagement session in Tribeca. Here’s why:

Choosing to do a Tribeca Engagement Session:

Naturally, deciding between NYC and coastal New England, we were talking about two very different backdrops. We knew that we’d have plenty of photos along the coastline the following year at The Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, Maine. We could either complement that coastal look or opt for a location that would give them some more photo variety overall. Since Beth and Keith live in Manhattan, engagement photos in NYC was the option that would give us greater diversity. Instead of the typical NYC session locations, we opted for Tribeca — a neighboring area to where they live.

 

Sentimental Value

Engagement photos feel special no matter where they are done, but they feel EXTRA special when they’re done somewhere meaningful. For Beth and Keith, they knew that it was worth the extra logistics to have this session in NYC. They may not live there forever, and what better time to document their life in New York together? We intentionally focused their session in Tribeca — using streets that are along their commuting routes and finishing the session at a favorite local craft cocktail bar, Grand Banks. Every decision was very intentional and made their photos that much more meaningful.

 

Travel and Logistics

This was the cherry on top that ultimately led Beth and Keith to decide on an engagement session in Tribeca. With busy summer plans of their own, sometimes it’s just easier to send the photographer to you! They initially planned to do their engagement session in New England, but after seeing I was free to travel to them on a weekend they planned to be in the city, they decided it was the perfect opportunity for photos closer to home.
