Selecting Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, RI as their wedding venue was an easy choice for MaryKate and Brian. They fell in love with this unique, historic estate just outside of Newport, Rhode Island because of the romantic charm and character of the french chateau-inspired architecture. I could not get enough of this secluded and private venue – or this couple!
MaryKate and Brian have an energy between them that feels electric. While they grew up in the same hometown, they didn’t meet until a mutual friend introduced them in college at UMass Amherst. There was an instant connection and they have been together ever since. This day felt like a long time coming and I was so honored to capture it!
Newport Estate Summer Wedding
The space to get ready at Glan Manor is incredibly beautiful with lots of tall windows and a stately fireplace. MaryKate had a vision for her wedding dress and had it custom-made by the designer, Susanne Neville. She took three different aspects she likes from other dresses by the designer and pieced them together to create something completely original. As MaryKate got into her dress with the help of her sisters and mom there was a lot of excited anticipation. You could really feel in the air how happy MaryKate was to finally marry Brian as we put on her final touches and snapped bridal portraits of her all ready to go!
MaryKate and Brian chose to have their first look outside on the steps of Glen Manor House. They exchanged vows privately before taking some portraits together and with their wedding party and immediate family members. Before we knew it, it was time for the ceremony. The outdoor ceremony space was beautiful out on the lawn overlooking the scenic views of the Sakonnet River.
Ivory and Gold Color Palette for Glen Manor House Wedding
One of the things MaryKate and Brian loved most about this venue is that it is not your typical cookie-cutter, wide-open venue. With separate reception spaces, it lent itself to some unique and memorable moments. They selected decor that complimented the classic charm and elegance with loose white flowers and greenery with gold details.
They kicked the night off by filling their champagne tower! There is a beautiful patio at Glen Manor that guests all gathered around at the end of the cocktail hour for MaryKate and Brian’s first dance. MaryKate is a former gymnast so she choreographed her first dance with Brian – and it was a showstopper! Everyone cheered and applauded through all of their twists, lifts, and heartfelt moves! Immediately following their first dance they heard three heartfelt toasts with all of their guests surrounding them. Given the dinner seating across multiple rooms at Glen Manor, they chose to do their first dance and toasts before their guests were seated, and I loved this break away from the traditional ways we often see first dances and toasts happen. It was definitely a highlight of the evening.
MaryKate and Brian’s close friends sat at a long al fresco table, under the Glen Manor awning and bistro lights! It was a beautiful setup, and MaryKate and Brian made a point of sharing special cheers with them during the meal. They then cut their cake with a special saber of Brian’s before dancing officially kicked off the evening! Congratulations to this wonderful couple!
