The Edgartown Reading Room was the perfect spot for Izzy and Tyler’s rehearsal dinner! Izzy’s family has celebrated several family milestones at the club over the years, so it was an easy choice to host their rehearsal dinner here as well!

To kick off the weekend, I met Izzy and Tyler at the rental home where their tented wedding would take place the following day. With a grim forecast for their wedding day, naturally, the day before was absolutely perfect. We toured the property, rehearsed with their family and wedding party, and then began their rehearsal coverage with a quick couple’s photo session – complete with a vintage baby blue Ford Bronco! Tyler drove us along the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, stopping along the way for some photos of him and Izzy enjoying the start of their wedding weekend! It was so much fun and original!

Tyler’s mom worked alongside Morrice Florist and Big Sky Tent and Party Rentals to add a chic, sophisticated look to the Reading Room. They selected flowers that added a natural and organic feel along with elevated touches, like the menus and gold flatware, to the tablescape. Located right on Edgartown’s Harbor, the venue boasts dual indoor/outdoor spaces that guests took advantage of as cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were shared. I always enjoy photographing rehearsal dinners because the intimate, relaxed setting allows for tons of beautiful candid moments.

Toasts, many laughs, and occasional tears were all shared into the night! It was obvious right away that not only do Izzy and Tyler have a special bond, but that the connections they share with family and friends are core to who they are as people. Although we were in a room full of people, the night’s festivities felt intimate and close-knit — something that shined through in their photo gallery.

The candlelight provided the perfect ambiance for me to photograph using only natural light. As often as I’m able to (without compromising the quality of the images), this is my preferred lighting scenario! The natural glow of the candles adds such an element of ambiance to moments that already feel so special. The lack of flash helps to keep the event feeling more intimate and less of a production creating the perfect documentary-style images.
