Vanessa and David’s engagement session was a dream! These high school sweethearts are from the mid-Atlantic, but wanted their engagement photos in one of their favorite New England destinations – Newport! Last summer, Vanessa and David visited Newport with Vanessa’s family and they loved exploring all the old mansions and historical sites together. Little did they know then, they would be engaged the following year. They used their summer trip to the East Coast as an opportunity to take their Newport engagement photos!
Stylish & Luxurious Engagement Photo Outfits
We started the session at The Elms, a Newport Mansion. The Elms does require a photographer permit, so we booked as soon as we could to ensure we could use this gorgeous property. Vanessa looked beautiful with her hair done by Rhode Island Wedding Hair and makeup done by Here for The Glam. They planned for two formal outfits at The Elms to fit with the elegant architecture and well-manicured grounds. They both looked incredible and I was so impressed by their impeccable fashion and style.
Vanessa selected a designer white daisy dress by Viktor & Rolf as her first outfit. She knew this dress was perfect because it reminded her of her late grandmother, who passed earlier in the year. Her grandmother’s own bridal portraits were taken in a dress with daisies on it and she was also originally from the Newport area. It made it feel even more special and significant!
Newport Engagement Photo Locations
The light in front of the mansion is incredible. Plus, it kept everyone cool in the mid-July heat! We used the grand entryway as our backdrop before moving to the back lawn and steps of the mansion. We definitely had to be a bit strategic with the harsh sunlight in the back of The Elms. Vanessa and David worked with me to find the best poses and angles based on the sun’s direction. The blue Mestiza New York Gown was especially stunning on Vanessa as she and David walked the grounds and made their way up the stairs of the mansion.
We paired their mansion engagement photos with some quintessential New England beach photos as well. King’s Beach was perfect because of the dramatic, rocky coast overlooking the ocean. Due to scheduling restraints at The Elms, we were at the beach well before “golden hour.” However, with some posing magic and working with the sunlight the photos turned out beautifully. I can’t wait for their wedding next year just outside of Newport at the elegant Glen Manor House!
